IMAGINATIVE & SUSTAINABLE PLAY
I am a carpenter of 10+ years, turned stay-at-home dad to a rad little girl named Fin. During the last three years of her life, I have used nap-time to explore what I can make for her out of wood, and in doing so I realized the enormous benefits of wood toys: more imagination, more flexible uses, awesome gross motor skills, and no plastic to boot.
This led me to perfect a waldorf/montessori inspired rocker board, which are handmade one-by-one on Vancouver Island, Canada, using sustainable wood and finished with a food-safe polish I make myself at home. Read on to see if this board could be a welcome addition to your home and imagination adventures!
OUR FLAGSHIP
WESTCOAST ROCKERBOARD
This is our staple item for sale, sustainably handmade at home on Vancouver Island. Read our testimonials, the benefits, or how it works by scrolling onward!
BENEFITS OF ROCKER BOARDS
and really, any other wooden toy!
Balance
Good Old Fashioned Balance
Rocking off-kilter on a board triggers our sensory system in regards to balance, spacial awareness, and our bodies - our vestibular system and proprioception!
Sensory Input
A safe way sensory process
Kids are bombarded with lights, colors, textures, noises and more. A simple wooden board has sensory appeal to all kids, but especially those with sensory input differences.
Sustainable
Wooden Toys for the Win!
Made from layers of certified sustainable Baltic Birch, pressed together with non-toxic water based glue, and finished with food-grade oils and Canadian beeswax.
Imagination
A Launching Pad
It's so much more than a rocker board. It quickly becomes a car, a boat, a see-saw, a rocket, a slide, a bridge, a cradle, a fort, a road, and so much more.
A Welcome Addition
Easy on the Eyes
Unlike a lot of children's toys, these rockers are pleasing to look at and have around the home. Bonus: it can double as foot-stool, a floor seat, and even a yoga balance block!
TESTIMONIALS
Our kids love their balance board! It provides so many opportunities for open ended play and is used daily by both our 1 and 3 year olds. Exactly what we hoped for - functions exactly as it should. Kids have a great time playing teeter totter, racing cars, using it as a bridge/tunnel, rocking it etc. It is thick, strong, smooth, and the wood is beautiful.
Experience was great as well - received our board on time and with an informative insert. In addition, Peter sent a followup note shortly after we received the board. We are happy both with the board and with the service we received - highly recommend Peter!

This is a lovely piece! Not only is it a great addition to our play space, it also provides a multi-sensory experience. The scent of wood is evident as soon as you open the box. And the finish is smooth and gentle on little hands. It is easy and simple to maintain. This is a well-made board that will be enjoyed for many years to come!
Peter was a pleasure to work with. He took the time to answer all of my questions and even made the effort to ship out earlier then originally stated!

IS YOUR ITEM SOLD OUT?
Sometimes we travel as a family and pause the shop for a bit. Sometimes we hit peak season and get more orders than we can handle. Sometimes I just take time off to hang out with my kid. Sometimes there are wood shortages. Sometimes there's a world-wide pandemic that limits our abilities. In any of these situations, you can sign up below to be notified when we are back in stock!
If it says pre-order, that means I do have the supplies and am working on boards. You can pre-order, pay, and be notified when your item ships. If it says buy now, ample boards were made and there's extras ready to ship right away. If it says sold out, there's no boards left and no boards in the works - that's when it's time to join the waitlist!
FAQ
What are the boards made of?
Baltic Birch Plywood, Non-Toxic Wood Glue, and a home-made polish from organic beeswax + food-safe oils, and some essential oils that complement the scent of birch!
How long do they take to make?
It depends how many orders I have at the time! Anywhere from 3 to 14 days. All boards are made one by one, by hand, by me and Finley. If you need a rush order for a special occasion, send me an email. Please note that holiday orders (December) require ordering in advance as I can only make so many boards a week.
I live in Victoria, BC - do I have to pay shipping?
Nope! Under shipping you'll see an option for a $0 local pick up. Then just email us at shopfinleyco@gmail.com and we'll arrange a pick up window.
What ages do you recommend?
All ages! Yes, even grown ups are enjoying the board as a footstool, seat, or assisting in exercises. My wife uses it as part of her stretching, yoga, and as a footstool! As far as children, the board is especially a hit with ages 1-6 years old, and up to tweens. With young children always watch for fingers and toes and be present during play.
Who's Finley?
Finley Aoife (Ee-fah, an irish name) is the boss here, a wild 4 year old little human with a lot of spark. She oversees the work, shop, and quality control. I, Peter, the "company" of Finley+Company, am her super cool dad.
Will you offer other products?
Yup! Finley and I are trialing and testing new products as we speak. All will be waldorf and montessori inspired wood creations that encouraging imagination, movement, and genuine play.
Why should I buy this vs mass produced Rockerboards?
If you want to support a micro-operation, purchase items made hyper-locally, and sustainable from top to bottom, consider us. We are a tiny company, I focus on each board one at at time, and they're often made to order.
What about cheaper boards made overseas?
That's great for them! You can find cheaper boards made in Latvia or the Ukraine, but shipping will be brutal. We offer a tree-to-living room approach: we know where it all comes from, their practices and sustainability, and we handle it carefully through every stage until it's in your hands.

Play
Whomever this board is for, that child will find dozens of ways to use it right out of the box. Additionally with a little TLC the boards can last through multiple children and have great re-sale value when you outgrow it!
Finley Aoife: Boss Girl
Fin is the boss around here. She oversees Peter's daily tasks and checks every board out herself to assure top quality finish and performance. She loves tacos, sloths, the ocean, super tall trees, banana muffins, bike rides, and the Magic School Bus. She dislikes pants, onions, and sleep.
ps - Aoife is pronounced "Ee-fah." It's irish! This is in honour of her cool mom's Irish name, Kate Siobhan.
Peter James:
Right-Hand Man
The "company" in Finley & Company is her dad, Peter. Peter is in charge of supplies, drafting up plans, prepping materials, crafting the boards from start to finish, testing for safety, polishing and finishing the boards, shipping, and customer service. Additionally he is the team's accountant, secretary, and public relations manager.
Peter is a carpenter of more than 10 years, who left behind building fancy homes in order to stay home with Finley and build her stuff instead. He's married to Kate and together they've been married 10 years, traveled to nearly 40 countries, and made one cool kid.
